The Moola Dasa of Shri Rama is calculated from the Moon and aligns remarkably with the timeline described in the Ramayana. The planetary periods correspond precisely with the major events of His life. Notably, the 14-year exile (Vanvas) began in His 24th year during the Saturn Dasa, exactly as recorded in the scriptures.
Moola Dasa Timeline of Shri Rama
Dasa | Years | Age | Key Events |
Jupiter | 10 | 10 | Birth and childhood (Janma) |
Moon | 10 | 20 | Education and marriage to Sita (Shiksha & Janaki Vivaha) |
Mars | 3 | 23 | Initiation (Diksha) under Vishwamitra |
Saturn | 14 | 37 | Exile in Dandakaranya (Vanvas) |
Sun | 1 | 38 | Coronation (Simhasana) |
Venus | 12 | 50 | Sita’s exile and birth of Luv & Kush (Mantra Pada) |
Rahu | 17 | 67 | Destruction of demons (Rakshasas) |
Ketu | 3 | 70 | Establishment of Eka Patni Dharma (one-man, one-wife ideal) |
Mercury | 13 | 83 | Establishment of Dharma in the world |
This system demonstrates that the 14-year exile occurred precisely during Saturn Dasa, beginning from the 24th year of His life, validating the statements of the Maharishis. When they referred to a 14-year Saturn period, they were indicating the Moola Dasa framework.
Moola Dasa is unique in its precision. It reveals the unfolding of karmas from past births and pinpoints the timing when blessings or curses manifest.
For example, the curse of Narada Muni is reflected astrologically in Jupiter placed in Lagna and aspected by Mars and Saturn. Saturn, ruling the 7th and 8th houses for Cancer Lagna, indicates the root cause of the karmic event.
Scriptures narrate that Vishnu incarnated as Shri Rama due to Narada Muni’s curse. When Narada was prevented from marrying through divine intervention—his face being transformed to resemble that of a monkey—the bride rejected him. In anger, he cursed that the Lord would experience deep separation from His beloved and would require the help of monkeys. This manifested when Sita was abducted in the forest and Shri Rama was assisted by the Vanara army led by Hanuman (symbolically connected with Mars).
The principles of karmic combinations, curses, and their remedies are elaborated in classical texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra as well as in works like Vedic Remedies in Astrology.
